9 round FIDE Swiss 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with an increment of 30 seconds per move, starting from move 1ECU regulations can be found here. |

| Participation and groups |
Open to all players representing ECU Chess Federations. There are four groups: 50+ open, 50+ women (born 1968 or earlier) 65+ open, 65+ women (born 1953 or earlier) |

| Entry fee and registration |
Participation fee is €120 (this includes 20€ ECU fee and 100€ entry fee). If you pay after the 25th of June the participation fee will rise to €140.

The Norwegian Chess Federation and Konnerud Chess Club has the honor of inviting you to the 18th European Senior Chess Championship.
The Championship will be hosted from the 3. to 13. August 2018 in Drammen, Norway
1. Invitation |
This is the official invitation to all European Chess Federations affiliated to FIDE and ECU to participate in the European Senior Individual Chess Championships for Men and Women (Fide zones 1.1 to 1.10) | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2. Venue |
The European Senior Chess Championship will be held in Drammen, Norway from August 3 (day of arrival) until August 13 (day of departure) 2018. The tournament will be held in Scandic Ambassadeur, a traditional hotel along the Drammen river, next to the Drammen Fjord, and within short distance of Oslo. This hotel is only 50 meters from the train station with great connection possibilities to Oslo and Oslo Airport. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3. Schedule |
After consultation with ECU and the organizers, the Chief Arbiter can make changes in the above tournament schedule. Such changes will be announced in due time. |

6. Ranking & Tie-Break System |
The order of players that finish with the same number of points shall be determined by application of the following tie-breaking procedures in sequence, proceeding from (a) to (b) to (c) to (d) to (e) the extent required:
In the case of unplayed games, for the calculation of tiebreak criteria the current FIDE Competition Rules shall be applied. |

8. Prizes |
Total Prize fund: 10.000 EUR A player can get one prize only. According to the ECU Tournament Rules and regulations, the money prizes will be equally shared among the players with the same score. If one of the prize winners is absent during the closing ceremony, then: his/her money prize will be reduced by 20 % with a minimum of 100 €. Any other prize (medal, trophy …) will not be awarded as long as a penalty of 100€ has not been paid. The money will be forfeited to ECU. The first 3 places will be awarded with cups and medals. |

9. Qualifications to World Senior Championships |
According to FIDE Handbook D.03.7, the top 3 players from each category of the European Senior Championship 2018 are qualified with personal rights (free board and lodging) to the World Senior Championship 2019. The Organizer (Norwegian Chess Federation) does not guarantee this, and if the regulations are changed at a later time, does not bear any financial or other responsibilities for this. |

10. Entry fee and Organization fee |
The organization fee for European Senior Chess Championship is € 100 for all the participants. Organization fee includes: – Free water, coffee and tea for players in the playing hall during the rounds – Free wifi in the official hotel – Accreditation. – Transport to/from Oslo Airport (Gardermoen) to the hotel and playing venueIn accordance with ECU regulations, a € 20 ECU entry fee is required for each player for European Senior Chess Championship. The payment of this fee shall be done at the same time as the organization fee.Total start fee is €120If you pay after the 25th of June 2018 the totalt start fee is €140. |

11. Accommodation |
To be booked through the Organizing Committee. 4 Star “Scandic Ambassadeur Drammmen”
Reservations for accommodation will be confirmed only after all costs are paid to the bank account of the Norwegian Chess Federation. Accommodation fees must be transferred not later than 25th of June 2018. The organizer offers only Scandic Ambassadeur Drammen as an official playing hotel. However, if players wish to use other accommodation arrangements, such as cabins or camping sites, the following sites can be useful:

12. Travel |
The closest airport is Oslo Lufthavn Gardermoen (OSL) with hundreds of international flights every day. Transfer from this airport (OSL) to the playing venue is covered by the organization fee. |

13. Payment |
The ECU fee (20€), organization fee (100€) and accommodation must be paid to the following account:

14. Visas |
The citizens of the following countries are exempt from requirement to obtain a visa to enter Norway (see information about visiting Norway without a Visa):
